El  corredor australiano del Davitamon Lotto, Robbie McEwen , ganó el primer duelo directo entre los grandes velocistas y se adjudicó la segunda etapa del Tour disputada entre Obernai y Esche sur Alzette, en Luxemburgo, por delante de Tom Boonen , mientras que el corredor noruego del Credit, Thor Hushovd , recuperó el maillot amarillo que perdió en la jornada de ayer en Estrasburgo.
